So you say that you found a short cut?
Yeah, that's right. Talking to my husband of nearly 15 years on my Sprint cell phone this past Wednesday night around 9:00pm, those were my exact words... I have my 18 year old daughter Chandler, my 10 year old son Bryce, and my 2 Chihuahua's, Pogo and Lucy in the car with me. We are heading to Clarksville, TN for my 13-year-old daughter's softball tournament. The national AFA tournament - Whoo Hooo... At first the thought had crossed my mind to wait until morning to head out of Louisville for the simple 2.5 hour trip to Clarksville. Instead, I say, "What the heck", it's ONLY 2.5 hours, we can be there before 11pm our time. With the time difference, that would have us at destination at only 10pm Clarksville time~ so we load up after I get in from a long day at work, and head out. As I am driving down 65 South, I get the before mentioned phone call from my dear husband. He suggests that the directions that I printed out are out of the way. He looked at a MAP on his way to Clarksville two days prior, and found a "Shorter" - "Easier" way to get there. (HA~) Well, being the wonderful wife that I am, I take my dear husbands advise, and exit off of 65 well before my printed map quest directions have instructed me to. Needless to say, there was one little detail left out during the verbal instructions over the phone and the most important turn to make, didn't happen! You see I was told that once I was on 68, it is a straight shot, not a single turn to make until you pass under the I24 overpass. The hotel should have been right there at the light on my left. It wasn't... Let me tell ya. I have always grown up hearing how very beautiful the Land Between the Lakes is in our wonderful State of Kentucky. My dad being the mountain man that he was raised to be, has told me stories of hunting and fishing in this part of the state that can not compare to any other. One thing is for certain though. If you want to enjoy the beauty of this particular piece of our wonderful state, be sure to do so DURING THE DAY~ We continued to drive aimlessly down interstate 68, until I saw the tale tale brown sign that proved to me that we were not at all where we were supposed to be at 12:30am on Thursday morning. The sign announcing that we were coming up to the Land Between the Lakes. Beautiful Lake Barkley, and the always awesome Cumberland River~!!!!!! You cannot see a DANG thing out in these parts at night. Have they ever heard of electricity???? OMG You would not believe how dark it was when I hit the start of that bridge to cross over the water. I lost my breath, the dogs began to bark, my daughter was cussing, and my son was nearly in tears. All that I could think was OMG I am going to beat my husband when I see him. More to come - Have to run for now....
